At Gibraltar Business Capital, from our leadership team — to our sales, credit, operations and finance teams — we have upheld our commitment to having strength in diversity and bringing different voices to the table. This means constantly holding ourselves accountable and elevating female voices across all our teams.
We pride ourselves on hiring the best, most qualified people to support our client’s unique needs and we believe this is better achieved when our teams are equipped with diverse backgrounds, equity in gender, and different professional and life experiences.
With the goal of showcasing the people behind these efforts, we’re highlighting one our newer VPs, Stefana Murray, who came to the Gibraltar team with nearly 15 years of ABL experience.
Tell us about your role and why you decided to join Gibraltar.
I joined Gibraltar as a VP – Account Executive in early 2022. I manage a portfolio of loans and underwrite new relationships for the organization. I came to GBC from the ABL division of Wells Fargo where I spent 14 years across roles in portfolio management, underwriting and borrowing base automation. I joined Gibraltar because of our ability to react swiftly to customer needs and with very flexible solutions. I was also excited to join the team of intelligent and friendly people who work here.
Tell us about something you’ve done recently, working at Gibraltar, that makes you proud.
Even though I’m newer to the GBC team, I’ve already built many strong relationships with my clients. I’ve worked through customer renewals, and amendments, and am on my way to helping our team secure a new customer from a credit relationship I recently underwrote. I’ve been able to quickly dive in and become a contributing member on our credit team.
What makes GBC unique in your point of view (as compared to prior employers)?
GBC is a small, but nimble company. We add a personal touch — both internally and externally — that makes our existing and potential clients feel valued and important from the minute they engage with our team.
What do you find most rewarding about working at GBC?
I really enjoy learning about my customers’ businesses and understanding their unique challenges and triumphs I like to maintain an active dialogue with my clients to understand their needs and develop credit structures that can foster growth. I’ve had the ability to do this on a highly personal level at GBC.
Can you share something you’ve learned working at Gibraltar that you think will stay with you during your working career?
I am inspired by our company values: Authentic, Reliable, and Thoughtful. Although these values were already important to me personally, seeing the values articulated in a meaningful way that holds true in practice with how we conduct business is powerful. I want to ensure I am actively using these values as a lens in the daily decisions that I make, and how I interact with our clients.
How do you enjoy spending your time outside of work?
My husband and I are constantly taking advantage of the outdoors. We have been trail running a lot lately because we are both training for the Crested Butte Ultra 55K in October. I am also pretty nerdy, so this year some of my friends and I are working on a board game campaign called Gloomhaven: Jaws of Lion. I also enjoy watching movies, TV shows (how about the new season of Stranger Things!?), books, hiking, weightlifting, and traveling.
What are you looking forward to this year?
I look forward to hopefully meeting all my clients in-person by the end of the year. I’m also looking forward to continuing to get to know my colleagues here at Gibraltar better. I am optimistic that 2022 is going to continue being a great year.
